Big Dream Gathering Through A Grandmothers Eyes

by Jo Hill

Des Moines has a lot of dreamers.  And many of them came to the Big Dream Gathering Tuesday evening.  We were some of the first ones into the building, and were greeted by many smiling faces.  At the door we were given a number, rules, and as many copies of the dream sheets as we wanted to use. Everyone was so excited and so ready to help post dreams.

As we walked around we saw people composing their dreams on the dream sheets; as well as walking around reading those already posted.  Everyone was having a good time.  All around the large dream room were little knots of friends chatting; others seriously studying posts; and at times making comments on other dreams.

As one would think the dreams were varied.  Many dreamed of getting a new house, a new love, or a great vacation.  Dreams many of us share, but I loved some of the others even more.  One that touched me was the dreamer wanted to help the poor and improvised in Mexico.  Since I have shared that dream, I pray they find their dream.

I saw many dreams that came from deep faith.  These were dreams of using beautiful voices to share God’s Praise with others;  as well as dreams to teach or lecture others about faith.  Then there were many plans for businesses, web sites, becoming lecturers, and the like.

One that I found sad, but one we all have is the dream of no more struggles.  I’m sure I am many years older then that dreamer, but without struggles it’s hard to really grow.  As one of the readers of Downtown Des Moines Blog asked: ” Am I the only one who was taught; there is no free lunch?”  The answer to that is with dreams, they do not just come, we have to work and struggle.  A great painting doesn’t come without first making a mess and getting your hands dirty, and a great web site
doesn’t pop into being without hours at the keyboard. I hope that dreamer learns to enjoy as much as possible the struggles.

I found the evening very rewarding and would like to thank Mr. and Mrs. Mitch, and all the dreamers for hosting a great evening.  May their wishes come true.

Yes, I did post a dream.  Even as old as I am I can dream.  So can you!

That story was amazing. I guess i never thought of things having to be messy to get to your dream in that way before. That was a good way to put it!

Its great to have a Grandmothers view on this blog!!!
