Celebrating Easter With 12,000 People

I hope that you had a wonderful Easter. I’ve always loved Easter, I think it’s a holiday that should be way more important than it is. It’s kind of sad that the celebration of Jesus birth has become about Santa and the celebration of His resurrection has become about the Easter Bunny.

This year we headed over to Wells Fargo Arena to attend Lutheran Church of Hope’s Easter Service. This year it was called Arise!

It’s not often you get to attend a church service that is also attended by more than 10,000 other people, especially in Des Moines. That’s exactly what happened Sunday morning downtown. The pastor even mentioned a huge traffic jam on I-235 for church–which got quite a reaction from the crowd.

The service was great, a celebration of Jesus resurrection, as well as a time to take stock in who you are. The pastor talked about who we really are, and who we present ourselves to be. It tied in beautifully with who Jesus was, and who He presented himself to be.

I hope you had a great Easter, here’s a few pictures taken from the service on Sunday morning.

Also, they mentioned that they will be announcing a new branch of their church next Easter–city branch was mentioned. Perhaps we’ll be seeing a new church open downtown soon?
