For too many years when Friday or Saturday night would roll around and it was time to go out to eat downtown Des Moines was all but forgotten.

There was Spaghetti Works, Nacho Mamma’s (keyword, was), Court Ave Brewing, Buzzard Billy’s, Johnny’s Hall of Fame and a few other select joints, that was it.  After 2 pm everything downtown closed, and there wasn’t a bite to eat anywhere.

So into the car you’d go, and make a drive out toward West Des Moines.

Those days are gone.  There are dozens and dozens of restaurants downtown today, with more opening every month.  I’ve put together a whole page dedicated to these places to eat, and I’ve even included addresses and maps–to make it easier for you to head downtown to eat!

Here’s the great news.  There are so many great places to eat that it will take you a long, long time to try them all.  Even better news, the more you spend your money eating at these restaurants, the more of them that will follow.

Let me make a suggestion.  Head here Thursday night, pick out a restaurant, and come Friday night bring your family and friends downtown to eat!
