Downtown Des Moines Newest Coffee House
West End Architectural Salvage is now serving coffee. Open at 7 AM on the weekdays and 10AM on the weekends, this might be a place you should check out if you haven’t already. Here’s the details from the Register…..
Des Moines now has one more venue for coffee, although this one . West End Architectural Salvage, 22 Ninth St., on the corner of Ninth and Cherry streets in Des Moines, is now serving coffee.
Don Short, the same fellow who used to run the Maid-Rite in Marshalltown, bought the building, a 100-plus-year-old brick building. He has had the interior wood sandblasted and set up four floors of salvaged architectural elements from around the world. Originally on Locust Street, and for awhile at both locations, he has now consolidated everything at this location.
Coffee is served on the first floor from a counter made of salvaged granite and very tall doors turned on their edge. Patrons might want to take their coffee to go, but if they stay, table tops decorated with salvaged metal collages might provide fodder for conversation.
Have you been? What was your experience?
