Downtown Des Moines October Sales Report
Each month I post a quick review of how the downtown housing market went for the previous month.
If you recall I said in light of September sales downtown you’d be correct to call it a buyer’s market. September 07 had a total of 3 sales downtown, with more than 350 units on the MLS. That would leave over 10 years of supply on the market without adding any units whatsoever.
So how did the market rebound in October? By selling exactly 3 units again. 1 unit at 418 Liberty, 1 unit at The Waterstreet Brownstones, and 1 at The Plaza.
On the bright side, there’s 1 month less than over 10 years worth of inventory!!!!!!

Sales will pick up. I am optimistic! It is just a nasty time of year to move. People are busy preparing for the holiday’s, traveling and no one likes to move in the cold! Iowans like to hibernate this time of year. Not to mention the redevelopment of our downtown is still new (in my opinion) we just need a little more time for people to get used to the idea that living in downtown Des Moines is superior to living anywhere else! ;–) But it’s coming…..I can feel it - positive thinking. “Build it and they will come”…….where have I heard that before? (i know i know - dumb - but i think i am funny! hee hee)
