Downtown Des Moines Restaurant Reviews-El Azteca

One thing we want to do a better job of focusing on is the great selection of restaurants that downtown Des Moines has to offer. We’ve only covered a few, and the selection of places to eat is huge downtown! A big thanks to Tammy Bickford for writing this review of El Azteca.

El Azteca

Feeling like Mexican? There is a great Mexican restaurant at 400 Locust in Capital Square, called El Azteca. They are only open during lunch hours, so you’ll have to plan a great lunch here, as dinner isn’t an option. We arrived a little after 11am and got right in with no wait. Our server Patty, who I highly recommend was quick to serve us chips and salsa and to take our drinks and lunch order.

We ordered 3 different items, beef nachos, a Speedy Gonzales which is an enchilada and a taco, and we also ordered a taco salad.

First off the beef nachos were massive! They were piled high with chips, shredded cheeses, beef, and queso. What a great deal for only $5.95! The speedy Gonzales was very good too, served with a side of rice and beans, which was reasonably priced too between $5.00-$6.00. As for the taco salad, it was so big that a part of it had to be taken home.

All of the food was so tasty, I will definitely be back again!

I highly recommend El Azteca to anyone who is hungry for Mexican food downtown. The service was fantastic, especially our great server Patty, be sure to ask for her! :)
