Fall At The Botanical Center
by Jo Hill

The Botanical Center was still fairly colorful outside a few days before the frost hit.
The trees were turning into yellows, reds and brown. The sea oats had dried and rattled when shook.

The tiny little water area, was prettier then ever. Gone are all the wonderful tropical plants except inside, where there were orchids in the lobby. The cactus pears were a lovely red. The Mums and Pansies were still blooming even as the weather cooled. A few hardy plants may still be there but the frost I’m sure has taken it’s toll.

I will wait a little while and go back inside to be among blooming plants again.
We need to visit and support this wonderland. I hear often from the workers there that they worry it will have to close. What a loss to Des Moines if that would happen. I find I go visiting there every month or so, and find new things. During the holidays the dome itself is decked in poinsettias, and is perfect place for photographs.

When it’s too cold for outdoor pictures, the Botanical Center is the place to go for wedding photographs. As winter gets nearer I will need the joy and color of the botanical center even more.

Thanks for that tour…it was like a mini vacation. I will plan to go there for a visit. I forgot what a serene and beautiful place the botanical center is.
How about this weekend?
