Fall Has Arrived At The Downtown Des Moines Farmer’s Market

by Jo Hill

Fall was in the air Saturday, and the the Farmer’s Market took on a new look. The vendors and shoppers were wearing jackets and sweaters, as were some of the dogs.

Also the produce has taken on the look of Fall. Pumpkins, grouds, squash, and Indian corn. We also found a few ears of strawberry popcorn on the cob.

I haven’t had a caramel apple in years, but we also found them, and they looked tasty.

We always have a good time and always find something good to eat, but the most fun this week was when I found a vendor with western hat I really liked with a fancy feather in it. After taking a picture of him and his hat—he told me, my hat needed something on it. So he found what he thought was the right feather for my hat. Of course, then we had to have another picture taken, even if the feathers don’t show that much. Times like this make the market so much fun. I’ll have to share pictures with him next week.

We also saw little Isabelle who just turned two that day.

Even with Fall here–you can still find lots of fresh flowers.

See you there next weekend!

I love the Farmer’s Market ‘most anytime.
But fall is my favorite. I love the crispness of the air, the fall pumpkins, squash, gourds, Indian corn, fresh crunchy apples and the last of the sweet corn.

Add in a good football game and what a Saturday!

I like the football game (especially when the Cyclones punk the Hawks–which is starting to turn into the norm), but give me summer. Heat and more heat baby!
