Girls Tourney Over And No Snow
The girls state tourney came to it’s big conclusion last night, which of course was a bit of a let down for me. The Roughriders got beat by a better team, and Sioux City North brought the first girls state title from any school back to that city.
It amazes me that Roosevelt’s coach, Tig Johnson, has had the team for 6 seasons, and in that time has 4 trips to state in a row, a title and a runner-up finish. With lots of underclassmen on the team too it seems he’s building a powerhouse.
The girls tourney is quite a spectacle in and of itself. Gov. Culver and Senator Grassley were both interviewed on tv, there were numerous dance squads that made tv, not to mention “the cleanest show in town.”
So congrats to all the girls that played in the tourney, and congrats to the people that run it showing off how well the state tournaments really are here in Des Moines. And congrats to Ed Wilson for keeping the bad weather away from us for this years tourney…….
