Homeless Camp
by Jo Hill

A night or so ago I saw a program on Television about the homeless camp that was washed away with the flood. It seems that people of Des Moines are pitching in to replace lost tents and gear.

Walking on the walking path I can see that almost all of the area has been cleared by the floodwaters. Surprisingly, one of the things that survived was a flag. As I walked past it the first time-I thought of the words “Our Flag was still there.” The person interviewed on television said the water came up so fast they did not have time to take much of anything with them. Must have very scary.

Today, I saw another homeless creature. I have been told that many of the woodchucks that live on the river were drown or lost their dens. Walking on the path today, I found this little fellow hiding under a trash barrel. Not sure if he is hurt or just frightened with no place to go. Maybe he too will be relocated. Hope so.
Josh notes: Does anyone know where or who donations can be made to in order to help these people replace their homes?
