Missing Summer, Missing Grey’s Lake

Me

I’ve never been one for winter. I would much prefer 365 days of heat and humidity over having winter. Spring and fall are okay, but winter is so bad it ruins fall, and makes spring seem too far away.

With this cold weather, and the snow that came with it I haven’t been able to go to Grey’s Lake in awhile. I’ve always enjoyed the trails there, they just might be the best place in all of Des Moines to go for a jog.

Here’s some pictures of the trails at Grey’s Lake, and the surrounding area.

I spent much of Friday outside, and these pictures really cheered me up!

If you haven’t ever spent any time on the trails at Grey’s Lake, or the whole trail that heads all the way to Principal Park you’re really missing out. They are fantastic, when it’s nice there’s always people out–which makes you feel safe. I love many of the trails in Des Moines, but so many of them are so vacant people can feel quite vulnerable on them.

Thank you to whoever it is that maintains these trails. You do a great job–and provide those of us that use them a fantastic recreational facility.

Let everyone know how you feel about Grey’s Lake, and the walking trails downtown–comment below.
