Tour the Murillo Building this Saturday

I wanted to let you know about the upcoming Des Moines Rehabbers Club meeting this Saturday, August 2, from 9:30 to 11:00 am.  We will be touring the historic Murillo building with general contractor Mike Kinter, who will talk about the move and the rehabilitation process.  Please forward this event announcement to anyone you think might be interested.

What: Tour the fabulous Murillo Building!
Where: Intersection of 16th and High (northeast corner)
When: Saturday, August 2, from 9:30 - 11:00
Cost: Free!

It’s a BIG deal to move a 705-ton pile of bricks down the middle of the street, even if the final destination is only a few blocks away. Several months ago, Mike Kinter of Kinter Construction oversaw just such a project when the historic Murillo Apartments and Henshie-Briggs Row House were picked up off their foundations and moved to new locations in the Sherman Hill neighborhood.

Join us to tour the buildings and hear Mike talk about the building moving process - what does it take to manage such a huge undertaking, what are the dangers, and how does one prepare a building for a move.

DSMRC monthly meetings are free and open to the public! They are typically held on the first Saturday of each month from 9:30 to 11:00 in the morning.  Each meeting is at a different location and covers a different topic.  We welcome people of all skill levels whether you are a professional general contractor, exploring options for redoing a bathroom, or simply want to talk about renovation with other interesting people.

Please contact DSMRC organizer Steve Wilke-Shapiro at swilkeshapiro@gmail.com or 515-710-3484 for more information.

Hope to see you there!
