Principal Park Family Fun Fest

by Jo Hill

Saturday nights in downtown Des Moines seem to be coming alive. Court Avenue was buzzing with many people eating outside, and men parking cars in a lot that said “Go Cubs”.

I had been out walking and found much activity at Principle park. Outside the park lots of people were having tailgate parties, and the air was scented with charcoal and hot dogs.

The big attraction was the Principle Family Fun Fest. This was a one day events with lots of fun things for kids to do, such as bounce houses, slide house, batting and pitching cages, and hammers to test strength. There was also a museum for the adults, and a home run derby.
