The Village Market

by Jo Hill

I went walking around East Village today, and found the Village Market.  I was unaware it was there until I started looking for a place to get something cold to drink and saw the sign.   I had to see what was available.  The store itself is not large, but they have a number of things I haven’t found downtown before.  Bananas, apples, and other produce as well as cases with cheese and cold cuts.  I was told
they make very good, healthy sandwiches.  Must be healthy–I saw spouts.

The fountain there had a few soft drinks like Coke, and Sprite, but no ice tea except bottled tea.   To my delight, I did find  Lemonada, and will return to buy more.  As I enjoyed that as I chatted with the ladies working there.  Both were very pleasant, and helpful. There were also a few stools so one could eat in.  I was surprised to know they are open Saturday and Sunday afternoon.  We now have some
place open on the week end.

The inventory was not large, but they have a large stock of wines and beers.  Lots like a good place to find things for a party: at least a wine and cheese party.  Since I love to walk, I’m sure I will be a regular customer.
