Uncle Wendell Is Moving
One of my personal favorite places to eat, Uncle Wendell’s, is moving from his Sherman Hill location. He’s heading up Ingersoll, so good news he’s staying close to downtown. Better news–he’s going to be open for lunch and dinner, and have seating!
Uncle Wendell’s plans move to Ingersoll
Wendell Garretson, owner of Uncle Wendell’s Bakery & BBQ, 607 17th St., said he plans to move to 2716 Ingersoll Ave., the former location of Pat’s Corner Cafe.
Garretson, who moved his business from Valley Junction in West Des Moines to Sherman Hill about five years ago, has been selling pork and beef sandwiches on a takeout-only basis during lunchtime for about three years.
Increased demand for his barbecue products prompted him to look for a place with seating, Garretson said. The Ingersoll Avenue location will seat 49, he said.
Garretson said he still is working on operational plans for the new location, but he will continue to prepare baked goods in Sherman Hill.
“At first, we’ll definitely be open for lunch, but it may take a little more time for us to start serving dinner,” he said.
YES!
If you haven’t been to Uncle Wendell’s, do yourself a favor and head over. And bring an appetite with you, the sandwiches are bigger than your head!
