Walking On A Different Trail
By Jo Hill

I love the walk to Gray’s Lake, but today I decided to walk to the Botanical Center. Even with the heat and dry weather the flowers outside are beautiful. There is always so much to see and more inside, but today, I walked past the gardens and continued my walk heading north.

Once you pass under the University bridge you are almost in another world. The trees are so dense and green, if you couldn’t hear the noise of traffic you would say you were in a deep forest. Between the trees you can still see the river at times, but it seems far away. The path is well maintained and runners and bikers speed past.

Along the path is an old wooden bridge that at one time was a look out point, but trees have grown up and it has become a resting spot if needed. The highlight of the walk is
always for me, the sight of Lutheran Hospital. From the path, you can only see the back of the oldest part, and it is truly wonderful. The quiet, the green, the birds chirping, and then this beautiful old building. I have seen the hospital often, but the view from the back it is one of my favorites.

(editor note: Josh was born at this hospital too, so he likes the view there as well, since it was the first one he ever had…….)
