What Downtown Des Moines Residents Have To Say About Living Downtown

I recently sent out a questionnaire to people that live downtown and asked each of them ten questions about things they like, misconceptions, and what can be done to make downtown better.

I am going to share what I get back next week, as these answers are still coming in–but I want you to hear what people have to say about this…….

What is the biggest misconception you’ve heard about living downtown?

  1. That it’s not safe–untrue, it’s better patrolled than the suburbs. There’s a strong, community-oriented police presence.
  2. There are few places to shop.
  3. It’s boring.
  4. Too expensive.  Not enough room for stuff.

These are just a few answers I’ve heard so far.  I find it interesting that these are issues downtown residents would say are huge ‘misconceptions.’

Are there things about living downtown that you think–but could be wrong?  This is one of the few places you can ask downtown residents questions that you have.  Leave a comment or send me an email josh@downtowndesmoinesblog.com and I can get answers for you.

Don’t let your misconceptions about downtown living keep you from enjoying the exciting life that it really does offer!  If you have questions–let us know!

No place to shop?? Only if you are looking for The Gap! Boring?? That is impossible and I can’t even respond to that. If you go to http://www.downtowndesmoines.com there is a huge list of what is going on downtown and a calendar of events. I personally do not have enough time this summer to all the events I want to hit.
