What Downtown Des Moines Residents Love About Downtown 5
We’re here with our 5th installment of what the people living downtown love about it. In case you’re needing to catch up here are the previous installments.
- What is your favorite place to eat downtown?
- Who has the best cup of joe?
- Where is the best place to hang out at night?
- What is your favorite yearly event?
This series is based upon a “survey” that was sent out to the residents living downtown. Who better is there to share the ins and outs of downtown than the people that reside there?
The social fabric downtown is quite diverse, so justice would not be served for me to simply give you what I think about each of these things, because there’s many people that like what I like, and dislike what I like! Right?
So question #5 is:
What is the best thing to do downtown?
And now for the answers!
- Attend an event at the Civic Center
- Summertime is for the I-Cubs, wintertime we reserve for the Starts
- State Historical Museum
- Hit up a brewpub
- Drink….[note: you can spot this guy from his liver, haha]
- Everything, eat out at urban/upbeat restaurants, drink on all the great patio-bars, go for a jog along the riverwalk to Grays Lake and back, go to art galleries, shop at all the boutiques, drink tea and relax at Gong Fu, furniture shop at Projects and Sticks, get a massage at the Loft Spa in East Village, listen to great piano music and the Grand Piano, get a paraffin hand treatment at the W Salon, grab a cup of coffee at the Village Bean, watch the world go by at the window bar at Splash, listen to great live music at several bars, and of course the amphitheater, go ice-skating in
Winter, watch the fireworks over the ballpark from my window, walk to the Civic Center for a show (and not have to fight for parking), walk down to the Farmer’s Market, the Village Market, and the Gateway market and delis, and just watch all the development going on around the whole downtown! - Ride my bike on Meredith Trail
- Farmer’s Market
- Go to concerts
- Live (duh…)
We’ll return soon with part 6. If you haven’t tried anything that has been recommended yet, these are what people describe as “the best!” So perhaps it’s time to come downtown and enjoy what people are telling you that you will enjoy!
