Yankee Doodle Pops

Every year the July 4 festivities get off with a bang as the Des Moines Symphony puts on “Yankee Doodle Pops” on the Capitol lawn. The event, held each year on July 3, sees tens of thousands of people decend on downtown for a patriotic show, followed by fireworks.

    My favorite summer memory is standing at the capitol with 100,000 people all clapping cheering along to “The Stars and Stripes Forever” while watching fireworks. Oh, my. I love that–and I’m obviously not the only one!
